Notice of office relocation

enechain corporation (headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director Ryo Nozawa, hereinafter “enechain”), Japan’s largest wholesale energy trading marketplace operator, announces the relocation to a new office on August 29, 2022 to accommodate the increasing members with the business expansion.

【Office layout concept】
enechain’s new office concept was developed with the support by Trailheads Inc., who handles PM and conceptual direction for office designs mainly for start up companies, and ULTRA STUDIO, who handles architectural design and interior design. The project took approximately 9 months from conceptual phase to completion, and the concept was determined through various discussions.

Following is an introduction of the office space.

1. Designing a space that allows our visitors and customers to feel the dynamism of the everchanging market

Continuous projection of the most recent transaction data on an electronic bulletin board

• We have installed an electronic bulletin board at the customer entrance and in the office area that constantly projects the most recent transaction data. This allows employees outside of the sales department to experience firsthand the dynamics of the market as it moves daily, and helps them to be keenly aware of our mission “Building energy markets coloring your life”. Various messages can also be projected on the electronic bulletin board, which serves as an important guidepost for the realization of our mission and implementation of our values.

Conference Room inspired by the global energy index

• Energy crisis currently taking place in Europe and other parts of the world is having a significant impact on the price of electricity in Japan. In operating the largest energy marketplace in Japan, it is necessary for all employees to constantly recognize energy issues on a global scale. To encourage a broad interest in major indices such as natural gas not only in Japan but also overseas on a daily basis, we have chosen the names of cities in major energy indices around the world for each conference spaces.

Feeling the global energy market

• We have also created an environment in which energy related information is always visible by constantly projecting Bloomberg TV and other information on a large screen.

2. Pursuit of team unity to realize the mission of “Building energy markets coloring your life”

A centrally located built-in table aligns the employees’ line of sight and prepares them for the realization of the mission.

• Table is placed in the center of the office space, facing Tokyo Tower and Roppongi, so that all employees can look in the same direction and create a large market for the realization of the mission. The table is finished in a beautiful gradation of blue, the corporate color of enechain.

“High-five” promotes a team culture that celebrates every success regardless of its size.

• One of our five Values, “Rainbow is beautiful”, emphasizes the importance of embracing diversity and loving our colleagues and teams. In order to rejoice and celebrate the success of our colleagues together, we have installed a High-five button. When this button is pressed, a notification is sent to Slack, the chat tool we use, and music is played in the office space to celebrate our successes.

• No matter how small the success may be, it is a big step forward when accumulated. We will continue to value the culture that has existed since the company’s founding, in which the entire team “High-fives” and praises each other.

Introducing a space where employees can gather face to face for divergent communication when they come to the office

• With the increase in work from home and remote working, there are fewer opportunities for divergent communication when they come to the office. We have created a “Wai Gaya” area where employees can communicate with each other with a relaxing cup of coffee, and a “Play Room” for club activities and games, embodying our “Yohaku” mentality.

3. Location agnostic work style, with enechain’s good nature theory management

All seats are free address, based on the premise that number of employees work remote

• We trust all of our employees as professionals, our management style is to provide maximum flexibility in the way they work. Since many of our employees choose to work remotely or work from home, we have made all seats free-address in order to make the most efficient use of the office space.

Zoom/ Google Meet available in all meeting rooms and throughout

• All meeting spaces are equipped with Zoom and Google Meet connections so that meetings can be held with clients and employees working remotely. In addition, we have set up at least 2 monitors on the walls in the meeting rooms so that participants can see the speaker’s face even while projecting materials. The aim is to reduce the stress caused by remoteness and improve work efficiency and meeting quality by allowing comfortable and smooth communication even during online meetings.

Contact connection with overseas offices

• The sales department is constantly connected to Singapore and the UK via Zoom, which is projected on a large monitor on the wall. We have created a work environment that allows team to work as one, even when they are in different locations.

Synchronization of real office and metaverse space

• In order to promote interaction with employees working remotely, who tend to have less communication, a connection point between the real and virtual offices was established, calling it the Play Area, as part of our “Yohaku” mentality.

• The virtual office created with the online communication tool “Gather” has a world view like an old-fashioned video game. The avatar is controlled with a joystick, and when you approach the avatar of another employee, you can actually talk to him/her using your voice. Employees can freely move back and forth between the real office space and the virtual space, and it is loved by employees as a “door for travel”.
